On Thursday 17th March, Year 4 visited Stafford Castle as we learned about the Normans and their Motte and Bailey castles. In our Learning Challenge: ‘Why were Norman castles certainly not bouncy?” We explored the structure and purpose of these castles during the reign of William the Conqueror. On our visit, we had an excellent opportunity to experience what it might’ve been like inside these castles. We explored and sparred with the armour and weaponry the knights and soldiers used, and demonstrated how the English shield wall helped to protect our friends. In the castle, we were able to mint our own coin. We really enjoyed our visit.
