‘Sports for Schools’ Challenge

On Tuesday 26th April, all of the children at St Mark’s took part in a sponsored ‘Sports for Schools’ challenge to bring a top international athlete to our school to encourage children to take up more sport. We were very lucky to be visited by Danielle Brown, who is a Paralympic archer for Great Britain.

The children all enjoyed taking part in a sponsored fitness circuit throughout the morning, which consisted of four different activities. These activities were: spotty dogs, leg drives, press ups and star jumps. The children had to do as many of these as they could in 1 minute. It does not seem a lot but they really were hard. All of the children and staff were fabulous and tried their hardest in completing all of the activities.

When we had finished the fitness circuit, we had an inspirational assembly from Danielle. She told us all about her disability and how she became a Paralympian. This was truly inspirational! The children were also sponsored to complete the event, and as a school we raised a large amount of money which will be used to buy new sports equipment for St Mark’s and by Sports for Schools to support athletes around the country. Well done everyone and a huge thank you to those of you who sponsored the children.
