Playing & Learning

We are a local authority nursery school for 3 & 4 year olds, delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. At the core pf this are sound principles grouped into four themes –

  • A unique Child;
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning & Developing

The principles are at the heart of all that we do every day and the way we organise the nursery both indoors and outdoors. Each child is a unique individual with varied needs and interests. Children learn through playing and making choices.

We plan daily, using our observations of individual children’s interests and ways of learning. We provide stimulating and exciting play activities including trips, visits and visitors. We are committed to developing our links with the community and value local support.

Learning and developing is made up of these 7 areas – Personal, Social and Emotional, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts & Design.

The EYFS includes legal requirements relating to learning, development and welfare. The needs and happiness of our children are of the first importance.

In addition, we work to the Every Child Matters Agenda. The Government’s aims for every child, whatever their background or circumstances, to have the support they need to: Be Healthy; Stay Safe; Enjoy and Achieve; Make a Positive Contribution; and Achieve Economic Well-being.
